"How come I no longer see ToxCalc on your website?"
ToxCalc has been fully supplanted by CETIS. CETIS is a much more capable and modern application. You are encouraged to read about the capabilities and how CETIS can help you administer a modern toxicology lab.
"How do I setup ToxCalc for multiple users?"
ToxCalc can be used in a multi-user environment, however, you will need the 'network' version that allows multiple users to share the same database. Only users purchasing more than one copy of ToxCalc 5.0 will be provided with the network version. In this case, you will install the ToxCalc 'Database' folder on a shared drive and the ToxCalc 5.0 application on each of the workstations. You will then link the workstations to the 'Database' folder on the shared drive using the command 'Relink Database' under the 'Tools' menu.
"When I attempt to relink the ToxCalc 5.0 application to the ToxCalc database on an external drive I get a run-time error 'Path Not Found.' How do I address this particular error?"
You need to first map the external drive to the workstation, giving it a letter drive designation such as M: drive. The M: drive in this case will be visible to ToxCalc and will also appear as a network drive under My Computer.
"My toolbar stopped working after I moved the ToxCalc5 folder to a new location. How do I fix that?"
Excel makes a global copy of any custom toolbar and hard codes the references. If you move the file that the toolbar references you will get an error. This is easily addressed by selecting the "Relink Toolbar' command under the 'Tools' menu. The next time you startup ToxCalc, a fresh copy of the toolbar with the correct references will be added to the global toolbar list.
"Do I need to have macros enabled to use ToxCalc 5.0?"
Yes, you need to set your macro security to either 'low' or 'medium.' If there is little chance of deleterious Excel programs from being installed on your computer, you can set the security to 'low.'
"I am trying to get ToxCalc 5.0 to run under Excel 2007, but get an error message about the embedded graphs. Is ToxCalc 5.0 compatible with Excel 2007?"
ToxCalc 5.0 is not compatible with Excel 2007 due to Microsoft's decision not to provide for complete backward compatibility.
"If I reload an old dataset to use as a template and do not change the 'Test ID' field, why is the old dataset over-written?"
ToxCalc attempts to maintain a database without duplicate Test ID values. When you reload an old data set, ToxCalc stores a record number and after the saving of the new dataset, it marks the old record for deletion.
"Why do I need to 'Compact' the database?"
Regular database compaction is recommended because it rebuilds the database and permanently deletes records that were previously marked for deletion. You can quickly compact the database by selecting the 'Compact>Database' command under the 'Database' menu. It is also highly recommended that you regularly backup your database using the 'Backup' command under the 'Database' menu.
"Can I use the QC charting capability for non-ToxCalc data?"
Yes, you can use the QC Chart to prepare a Levey-Jennings or cumulative mean plot for any data set; the only requirement is that the data reside on an Excel worksheet.
"Somehow I have changed the formatting of the 'toxcalc.xls' file and would like to undo the changes. How do I do that?"
The 'Save' command under the 'File' will erase any data on the 'toxcalc.xls' file and return to the default formatting. Use the 'Save Copy As' command to save a copy of the toxcalc.xls workbook with the dataset and summary report.
